Some interesting thoughts!
Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?
Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?
Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago ?
When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines ?
Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?
Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?
When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a "vanilla" Iowa , because that’s the way God wants it?
Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?
Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?
How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?
Elizabeth,
I think what you wrote is straight to the heart and very well put! I have some thoughts about this and of course I know that it will strike some viewer\’s nerves, however, I will not be moved from my beliefs….in part I think what you wrote about here is due to the fact that Iowa does not offer all the things that I consider to be demoralizing in nature such as gambling, drinking in excess and things considered to be of ill repute (hopefully I spelled that correctly).
Unfortunately when things of catastrophic scales hit rural areas that are not as much into the culture scene like the big inner cities where you always see reporter\’s and the who\’s who showing up in hords is in part why this happens. Of course let us not forget a bigger element that is highly important and that is the fact that Iowa is by far and large a huge part of the Bible belt and thank God for that!
People today (especially celbrities) are too quick to lay blame on everyone else….rather than trying to find the blame they should stand shoulder to shoulder and community to community to help rebuild like those in Iowa and many other flood stricken area\’s around the country! I suppose I could rant on this all day as you have brought up some very note worthy points! For me, I believe that we all need to re-evaluate our priorities and start looking at the true issues and root causes of some of the things we have to endure in life and that is US as a people.
Thanks for sharing this thought provoking and interesting post! Have a wonderful and blessed day my friend!
Greg

I read this and I don\’t know whether to laugh or cry. You cut to the quick of some very relevant differences in the level and type of attention these similar situations received. At the same time it is a sad commentary of what much of our nation holds dear. They enjoy the sensational and controversial, but don\’t really care about the individuals that are hurting everyday.
